Don’t Have To Be Athletic To Be An Athlete

Took this picture at the Nike in Santa Monica, CA and as I came across it, it got me thinking about the nations obesity epidemic. In general, when we think of athletes (the pros), we know they take very good care of their bodies. For sure they have talent, and that is why they get paid the big bucks, but this quote by Bill Bowerman (co-founder of Nike), really does applies to all.

One can argue that we are just a brain that contains memories, chemical signals that create emotion, and not much more. To that argument, I say true, but how do we experience this emotions and create our fondest memories. Thats right! Through our bodies. The point I am trying to drive home is that we should all take care of our bodies as if we were athletes. Without healthy bodies, we can’t go out and experience all that life has to offer.

We all know obesity just leads to many other acute and chronic diseases. Diet is just as important as exercise or any other kind of physical activity. Either of the two is kind of pointless without the other. Above all though, and to cure this epidemic of obese proportions, we must change our behavior, our way of thinking.

Think like an athlete…be an athlete.
