Even when it comes to words, minimalism can be so profound. Just like these 3 words…
(Above is a patch I bought from Jockostore.com)
No….not I love you, but “discipline equals freedom.”
This is coined by a former Navy SEAL named Jocko Willink. I absolutely recommend listening to his podcast. Anyways, this phrase that he coined are made of words that you can live your entire life by.
This can be applied to almost anything, including minimalism. For example if you have the discipline to save your money, you’ll have the freedom to go on that vacation. If you have the discipline to not eat that donut at work, you’ll have better health to go out and do things. If you have the discipline to stick with jiu jitsu (or any other martial art or workout) you’ll get that black belt.
It’s so simple and possibly uses the most minimal words one can use to help explain life, BUT…it can be the most difficult thing to do.
Now I try to practice discipline everyday, but don’t get me wrong, it’s hard not to eat the donuts in the break room. I give in frequently to the drive-thru. I have my temptations, but I try to find a balance. To be discipline also doesn’t me to be rigid and stiff as a board.
Anyways, I ramble, but I think about this topic pretty much almost every day. Please let me know what you think.
Hope you enjoyed!
