Some people (Westerners) thought this was weird and couldn’t really get over the “squatting” toilet. Sometimes they were very open about their opinions on it and inappropriate.

Flip side……

People (Chinese) thought it was weird Westerners sit on toilets that other people just sat on…bare! Seemed to them to be not very hygienic (makes sense to me).

Different strokes for different folks. Embrace the difference. Enjoy everything a culture, different from you own, has to offer.
