The first time I visited Japan (2012), we ended up eating at a family style restaurant called Johnathan’s. It was good food and very reasonably prices. My most recent visit to Japan (2016) I tried another family style restaurant (very comparable to Johnathan’s) called ガスト or pronounced Ga-su-to.
Looks very Western, and it is, but as you can see, we do have plates of rice. Starting from the pizza and going counter clockwise, next is a pork dish, fries, and then at the bottom chicken topped with a tomato based sauce.
Forgive me if I forget the exact name of this dish on the menu, but its a thick slice of toast with tomato sauce, cheese, bacon, and corn. If I remember correctly, I had this for breakfast. So good!
Dessert anyone? Yes please! This is so simple, but so good. It an “apple pie” type dessert. Not overwhelming and heavy, but light and just the right amount of sweetness. It’s about a the size of an IHOP pancake.
As usual, if you every find yourself on that side of the world, definitely go eat out at ガスト. Not only is the food good, but you can’t beat the prices for the amount of food you can get and stuff your face with.
Side note: Since I mentioned Johnathan’s, I recommend that spot too 😉
